Byzantine Saints: Martyrs Thyrsos, Leukios, and Kallinikos (14 December)

The Holy Martyrs Theos, Lucos, and Kinos, commemorated on December 14, courageously suffered for Christ during the brutal persecutions of the Roman Empire.
Under the reign of Emperor Diocletian (late 3rd–early 4th century), these saints bore witness to the truth of the Christian faith in Caesarea of Bithynia.
When Saint Lucos boldly reproached the pagan prefect for his unjust persecution of Christians, he was tortured and executed.
Saint Theos, though still a catechumen, eagerly embraced martyrdom. Refusing to offer sacrifice to idols, he proclaimed the words of the Prophet Jeremiah and mocked the worship of lifeless statues made of wood and stone. He endured horrific torments: his limbs were dislocated, his eyes were plucked out, and his teeth smashed.
Brought into a pagan temple, Saint Theos prayed and miraculously toppled a statue of Apollo, enraging the authorities. Despite even greater torments, he endured all suffering and reposed in the Lord after making the sign of the Cross.
Witnessing the saint’s bravery and the miracle, the pagan priest Kinos believed in Christ and boldly confessed the true faith. For this confession, he too was beheaded and received the crown of martyrdom.
☦️ These holy martyrs remind us that faith in Christ conquers fear, suffering, and death itself.
