The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe commemorates the Virgin Mary’s appearance to Saint Juan Diego in a small village in Mexico, requesting that a church be built at the site of her apparition. When the bishop denied his request, the Blessed Mother instructed Juan Diego to gather roses and carry them in his tilma—his tunic—to the bishop. When he opened the tilma before the bishop, an image of Our Lady miraculously appeared on the tunic. That same tilma, bearing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, is still on display today in Mexico City. Michael O’Neill, host of The Miracle Hunter on EWTN, joins to share some of the miraculous aspects of the image of Our Lady, having seen the tilma in person. He also explains how her apparition impacted native culture and why Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron of the pro-life movement.
