In this first video of the series, we begin with O Sapientia – O Wisdom, prayed on December 17 during Evening Prayer (Vespers). This ancient antiphon names Jesus Christ as Divine Wisdom, the eternal Word through whom all things were made and by whom all things are ordered.
Many Catholics recognize the O Antiphons through the Advent hymn, but few know where these prayers come from, how the Church prays them, or why they matter so deeply for the spiritual life.
In this video, we explore:
What the O Antiphons are and where they live in the prayer of the Church
Why Advent’s final days focus on naming Christ
How Scripture reveals Wisdom as a Person, fulfilled in Jesus Christ
The theological meaning of calling Christ “Wisdom”
How to pray O Sapientia within Evening Prayer
A reflection to carry into your Advent prayer and preparation for Christmas
The O Antiphons are prayed from December 17 through December 23, traditionally before the Magnificat during Vespers. They form a sacred countdown to Christmas, teaching us how to wait with longing, reverence, and hope.
If you are looking to deepen your Advent, reclaim ancient Catholic tradition, and pray with the Church as she prepares for the coming of Christ, this series is for you.
